Incident Reports Help Text

If you have questions about the service or if you encounter any technical difficulty using the service, please contact CivicNet. Please telephone our office at 317.233.2010 (Indpls) or 800.236.5446 during our business hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm weekdays.

Online Incident Reports are available 24 hours per day. The information supplied is in "real time". In other words, the online service will retrieve exactly what is available in the Indianapolis/Marion County Government's database at that moment in time based upon your search criteria. (Reports which have not yet been entered into the database, will not yet be available online.)

Within Indianapolis/Marion County, there are many Police Jurisdictions which are independent of the Indianapolis Police Department/Marion County Sheriff's Office. These independent Jurisdictions include Beech Grove and Speedway.

Please click here for a list of the current Jurisdictions participating in the online Incident Report Service.

If an Incident Report was generated by a Police Jurisdiction not on the list, it will not be available online. To obtain these Reports, you must contact the originating Police Jurisdiction by mail, phone, fax or in person. In order to provide a more convenient and comprehensive service for customers, we are working to incorporate Incident Reports from all independent Jurisdictions within this service.

You may search for Incident Reports using a variety of methods. After submitting your search criteria, the service will produce a list of all possible entries which exactly match your search criteria. From this list, you may select the appropriate Incident Report to view.

To search by the CAD number, you will need to complete the three fields for the search. The first is the agency. For IPD, you would enter an "I". Next, you will need to enter the last two digits of the year the incident occurred. This is also the first two digits of the CAD number. Lastly, you will enter the remaining 7 digits of the CAD number.

Subscribers - There is no charge to conduct a name search. There is a $6.00 fee for each specific Incident Report you select to view.

Credit Card Users - There is no charge to conduct a name search. There is an $7.14 fee for each specific Incident Report you select to view.

Incident Reports which involve a juvenile or a sexual offense are considered confidential records and, therefore, are not available through the online service.

Vehicle accidents are classified as "incidents" for two main reasons:

  1. There is very minor or no damage involved. It is assumed that because it is so minor, the party or parties involved probably will not submit insurance claims.
  2. The vehicle(s) moved from the original accident scene before law enforcement arrived.

For example, after a collision, the driver decides not to report the accident. Later, after going home, the driver reconsiders and contacts the police. In this case, the car is not in its original accident location. The officer will classify this as an Incident Report instead of an Accident Report.

Search field hints and tips

Client ID - Client ID is an optional field created to assist you with accounting and managerial reporting functions. Before submitting a search request, you can input a customer name, account number, department name, account executive, or etc. into the Client ID area. After submitting your search request, your online billing summary will provide not only a total of any fees you have incurred, but also provide sub-totals per Client ID. Client ID sub-totals are available only on the online billing summary. They are not provided on other invoicing statements.

This area is provided only as an aid to you. The Client ID will not appear on any records, licenses etc. that are a result of your search.

Case Number - The incident case number format is 03-1234567-0000. To search by the case number, you will need to enter the middle 7 digits. From the above example, you would enter 1234567. The first two digits represent the year in which the accident occurred, i.e., 03 for the year 2003.
